To kick off Season 1, Battlefield 6 is also releasing a free Battle Royale mode. Under the name Battlefield Redsec, you’ll be able to play even more.
Initially, only the first part of Season 1 was announced for October 28, with a new map, a vehicle, and some weapons.
But revealing it ahead of schedule (the announcement came the day before), Battlefield 6 has now also released a free spin-off called Battlefield Redsec. In addition to Battle Royale, it also includes a new game mode called Gauntlet and access to Battlefield Portal.
We’ve summarized everything you need to know about it for you:
- Battlefield Redsec: Who can play it?
- Download: How much do I have to download?
- Progress: What applies to Redsec and multiplayer?
- Battle Royale: All information about the map and special features
- Gauntlet: What makes this game mode special?
- Portal: How does the free version work?
Platforms and availability of Redsec
Battlefield Redsec is now available for free on all current platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. On PC, you can download the free Battlefield spin-off via Steam, the EA app, or the Epic Store.
If you already own Battlefield 6, you can launch Redsec directly from the shooter’s main menu after updating.
How big is the download?
According to the Battlefield 6 main menu, Battlefield Redsec is about 36 gigabytes in size. Of that, just under 9 gigabytes are for the game itself and 28 gigabytes are for high-resolution textures.
Progress in Redsec and multiplayer
When you play Redsec, you also unlock new weapons, attachments, etc. for multiplayer. The Battle Pass is also shared between Redsec and Battlefield 6 and levelled up through both games.
All info about Battle Royale
The new Battle Royale mode basically works like other games in the genre, but it has some special features that we know from Battlefield. Here is the most important info:
- 100 players take part in each round. Only one squad can win.
- You can fight in pairs or as a squad of four players. There is no solo mode at release.
- At the start of the round, the squads jump out of helicopters and land on the map. There, they must first search for equipment.
- A firestorm increasingly restricts the walkable area, and anyone who touches it dies instantly.
- Before each round, you choose one of the four classes from Battlefield 6: Assault, Engineer, Support, or Recon. Each class has gadgets and abilities, some of which you will recognize from the main game.
- However, there are also brand new advantages tailored to Battle Royale mode. For example, a Scout can locate treasures or drop explosives from a drone.
- There are also vehicles hidden on the map that you can use as a squad, including tanks, helicopters, and boats. Particularly powerful vehicles are hidden in containers that you must first open.
What does the map actually look like? The huge Battle Royale map is called Fort Lyndon and is set in Southern California. You can expect idyllic suburbs, densely built-up city centers, and many striking locations, such as a crashed airplane or a lighthouse. As is usual for Battlefield, some large buildings, such as skyscrapers, are completely destructible.

What is Gauntlet?
In Gauntlet, eight squads of four players each compete against each other. In this turn-based game mode, the squads must complete missions to advance.
Each round lasts five minutes and changes both the location and the type of mission. The game continues until a winner is determined.
Everything you need to know about Portal in Battlefield Redsec
Battlefield Portal is also available free of charge to everyone, but with the free version, you can only create game modes and servers that play on the Battle Royale map Fort Lyndon. However, just like in multiplayer, you can create your own rule sets to suit your taste. That’s all the important information about the release of Battlefield Redsec. We will, of course, take a closer look at the new modes for you and keep you informed about all the latest news, tips, and tricks for Battlefield 6.
