Even several years after its release, the hero shooterApex Legendsis still one of themost-played titles on Steam Well over 100,000 players are online at the same time every day However, the mood in the large community is currently in the basement. This is due to thechanges to the seasonal Battle Pass

recently announced by the developer.

The developers summarized the extensive changes yesterday in an infographic, which you can see above. It contains quite a lot of detailed information, but at its core there aretwo major innovations that are driving fans to the barricades:

  • There will be two passes per season from Season 22. So if you want to get all the rewards, you’ll have to buy the Battle Pass again after the first half of the season. Although there are some additional rewards in the new passes, there are also some things that are missing.
  • In future, the passes can no longer be purchased with the premium currency Apex Coins, but only with real money. Previously, it was possible to buy the next pass with the currency earned from the previous one. Players therefore did not have to spend any additional real money. However, this option is now no longer available.

In effect, the changes mean that fanswill have to spend significantly more money if they want the rewards from the premium variants of the Battle Pass. Those who only play with the free version, on the other hand, will benefit from additional rewards

How is the community reacting?

For some players, the changes are probably the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Already fed up with server problems, they announced on Reddit that they were throwing in the towel and abandoning Apex Legends:

YouTuber DANNYonPC responds to the announcement of the new features on Twitter:

Do you want to kill the game? Because that’s how you kill the game.

Others, on the other hand, want to protest against the changes and are calling for people to stop spending money in the game, boycott events and stop watching streams. Fans are also expressing their frustration on Steam, where the reviews of the past few days have slipped to balanced. In the reviews, they complain about the publisher’s alleged greed for money

It remains to be seen whether the community’s protest will have any effect. In any case, this is not the first time EA has been confronted with the displeasure of gamers.

In the case of Star Wars Battlefront 2, released in 2017, for example, disgruntled fans were able to get microtransactions massively scaled back.
