Embark Studios and Chernin Entertainment have announced major film and TV series universes for two shooters.
Helldivers, Call of Duty. The boom in video game adaptations isn’t stopping at shooters either. And as if there weren’t enough of them already in the works, Chernin Entertainment is now also snagging the film rights to ARC Raiders and The Finals.
Most recently, the production studio, in collaboration with A24, Atomic Monster, and 21 Laps Entertainment, scored a massive box office hit with Backrooms. With an estimated budget of $10 million, the blockbuster grossed an incredible $400 million.
Two Major TV and Movie Universes
As Variety reports, there is also talk of movies and TV series for ARC Raiders and The Finals. The development studio behind both shooters—Embark Studios—is owned by Nexon, a South Korean developer and publisher. Patrick Söderlund, Nexon’s Chairman of the Board and founder and CEO of Embark Studios, is naturally very excited about the news:
Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next major step toward expanding ARC Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community.
According to the report, the development studio and the new production company plan to work closely together to achieve the best possible result and make fans happy. As Söderlund goes on to explain:
Throughout the entire process, the creative teams at Embark Studios will work closely with Chernin to ensure that the creativity that defines these two brands is carried over into entirely new formats.
According to Chernin Entertainment, the “visually stunning, atmospheric worlds” of ARC Raiders and The Finals offer “countless stories.” For now, though, it seems we’ll just have to wait and see what the studios are cooking up. After all, there are currently only plans, but no concrete details yet.

In The Finals, you can jump right in for free. Here, you battle your way through destructible arenas inspired by real cities like Monaco and Las Vegas. The main game was released in early December 2023 and has since captivated over 30 million players.
By the way, updates are still coming for both games. For ARC Raiders, “Frozen Trail” arrives on October 8, while The Finals follows suit with Season 12 on October 20.
