Bethesda is using the optimizations from the Switch 2 version to finally address performance issues on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Just in time for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 version, Bethesda has confirmed that a new patch for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is in the works.

In fact, it’s been a long time since there was a new update—the last one was released in July 2025(!). This also means that the remaster has continued to struggle with teething problems ever since; for example, performance degrades as playtime increases.

Porting the Switch 2 optimizations to other platforms

Although user reviews for Oblivion Remastered on Steam are “mostly positive” overall, this does not hide the fact that difficulties still exist—and recent reviews are only “mixed.”

Bethesda is now offering hope—via asocial media post—that something might soon be done regarding performance on platforms other than the Switch 2: “We’ve heard your feedback. You’re asking for another patch for Oblivion Remastered. The Nintendo Switch 2 version includes a number of optimizations. We’re currently looking into how we can bring these adjustments to other platforms as well. As soon as we know more, we’ll share the details with you.”

Reactions from the fanbase and the game’s success so far

These statements are still quite vague overall, but the community is at least relieved to see the first sign of progress in months: “It’s completely crazy that they haven’t said ANYTHING about this for over a year,” writes one user on Reddit. “But I’m glad we’re finally getting some kind of sign of life. The update had better have a lot to offer.”

That’s exactly what many fans are hoping for. The game was a huge success for Bethesda and Xbox, attracting more than nine million players. Given that, Oblivion Remastered certainly deserves to run as smoothly as possible.
