With Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand, the real-time strategy series gets a new installment in which we defend against waves of attacks.

In real-time strategy games, we usually have to maintain complete control over the battlefield. We build our base, constantly produce new troops, capture territory, and fend off enemy attacks all at the same time. The newly announced Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand simplifies things a bit: Our sole objective is to defend our base against increasingly powerful waves of enemies.

How CoH 3: Final Stand Works

This spin-off of the well-known real-time strategy series ventures into uncharted territory: We start each round by positioning our units and setting up defensive structures. Then the first of 12 enemy waves begins its assault. Each subsequent wave gets tougher, and sometimes particularly powerful boss enemies even attack our fortress (there are reportedly 36 different bosses).

Once we’ve repelled an attack, we’re rewarded with random units or abilities that, ideally, will help us survive the next wave. Between rounds, we also unlock permanent perks for our four factions (the U.S., the U.K., the Wehrmacht, and the Afrika Korps); these will include activatable abilities and specific advantages that are intended to significantly shape the gameplay experience of each faction.

To add more variety, the game offers a choice between single-player and co-op modes, an endless mode, and eight difficulty levels.

If Final Stand piques your interest, you won’t have to wait much longer: The game is set to release on Steam on July 29, 2026. Although it has “Company of Heroes 3” in the title, you don’t need to own it to play Final Stand. However, if you own the main game in the series, you’ll get a 20 percent discount on the spin-off. But if you’d rather stick with the regular CoH, Johannes Schubert will tell you whether the latest installment in the series, coming in 2026, is actually worth it for you.
