This is one of the best DIY gaming projects we’ve seen this year.

As is typical for arcade machines, multiple players can stand side by side at a single machine and play together. To make this possible, he installed a total of four arcade controllers and even two light guns.

Conveniently, the panel with buttons and joysticks can be flipped up using hinges to quickly make modifications or repairs to them.

By the way, the arcade controllers are recognized as standard gamepads and are therefore compatible with most games.

Another unique feature is the second screen above the large one. It dynamically displays which game is currently being played.

At the heart of both machines is a mini-PC.Here is a list of the parts and components used, which were required for each cabinet:

  • Gaming hardware: Mini-PC with Ryzen 5 4500U
  • Storage: External SSD with 1 TB of storage
  • Lightguns: RS3 Reaper
  • Monitor: 27-inch screen from KTC
  • Marquee screen (LED panel): Mini screen by Wiseco
  • Joysticks and buttons: SJX joystick kits
  • Audio: Two 2-inch 4-ohm speakers, speaker cables, and amplifier
  • Power supply and cables: 12V power supply, power strip, power jack with cable, USB extension cable
  • Materials: Plywood, furniture paint, wood glue, screws, nails, nail gun, hinges

Judging by the smiling faces, we can assume that his team is enjoying the two machines. They play all kinds of retro games on them, and thanks to the light guns, even classics like House of the Dead or Duck Hunt are playable.

Although the total cost comes to about $2,000 per machine, the project has more than paid for itself. Reliving the games from their childhood and creating new ones is a priceless gift—and just a small token of appreciation for what these people do for others every day.

What was your favorite DIY project? Feel free to share it with us in the comments! It doesn’t necessarily have to be related to gaming.
