The next DLC brings the Hippodrome into the game, and a new trailer has now unveiled this massive structure.
In August, “The Hippodrome”—the second major DLC for Anno 117: Pax Romana—will be released. This will introduce the largest building ever to appear in an Anno game. A first trailer has now made a big announcement about the arrival of this massive monument and offered a first look at it. You can watch the trailer below.
The best part: The claim that it’s the largest monument in Anno history is obviously true. Unlike with the volcanic island from *Promise of the Volcano*, there’s no doubt about it this time. In the trailer, we can already see quite clearly how many squares of the Anno grid the Circus Maximus roughly occupies—and no previous monument even comes close.
This Is How Big the Hippodrome Is
Although Ubisoft hasn’t yet revealed exactly how many tiles the Hippodrome occupies on your island, the trailer does at least allow for some estimates.& nbsp;On Reddit, fans are hard at work trying to measure the Hippodrome’s dimensions as best they can.
Although the results vary slightly, the general outline is quite similar across the board:
- The Hippodrome is over 60 tiles long and about 25 tiles wide.
For comparison—this makes the Hippodrome almost twice as long and about the same width as the Amphitheater, which is currently the only monument in Anno 117. Various other monuments from Anno’s history also can’t compare to the Hippodrome in terms of scale:
- The cathedral in Anno 1404 is 18 tiles long and 11 tiles wide.
- The World’s Fair in Anno 1800 is 22 tiles long and 18 tiles wide.
- The soccer stadium in Anno 1800 is 15 tiles long and 11 tiles wide.
The only two buildings that are slightly larger than the Hippodrome are the Iron Tower and the Skyline Tower. Although both occupy only 9×9 and 14×14 tiles, respectively, they are, of course, extremely tall and tower over the Hippodrome. Overall, however, the new racetrack in Anno 117 should still have the edge in terms of sheer size.
So start clearing out a little space on your islands. Aside from the giant island of Cinis, you’ll surely have to tear down tons of buildings to make room for the Hippodrome.
What else do we know?
Ideally, of course, the Hippodrome shouldn’t just look epic and waste space. As a monument, the construction challenge alone will hopefully be fun and should really be worth it in the end. We’re guessing that, similar to the Amphitheater, the arena will provide at least a massive resident buff upon completion to compensate for how much space you have to clear for it.
We don’t yet know exactly what effect the horse races at the Hippodrome will have. We’re expecting a system very similar to the one in the Amphitheater, where we’ll have to supply various games with different amounts of goods and then receive buffs.
At least we already know two resources that are needed to build the Hippodrome! First, there’s wood—which makes sense. But apparently, we also need granite from Albion. Since the Hippodrome can apparently only be built in Latium, an expansion into the Celtic realm would be a must.
Design Your Sponsor
Along with the release of the trailer, a small community challenge was also launched. The Anno team wants your creative ideas for sponsors that could appear in the amphitheater. To participate, you’ll need to come up with a suitable brand and a logo, which will then be featured in an upcoming trailer. You can also write a slogan for your imagined product.
All you have to do is send your entry via email to [email protected] , and you’ll have a chance to win a mug or a trireme kit. By the way, AI-generated artwork isn’t explicitly prohibited in the call for entries, but it would likely be hard to prevent or easy to spot.
