By now, your Steam library is probably already overflowing, so here are a few especially big discounts from the 2026 Steam Summer Sale.
Goodness, summer is really hitting hard this year. In Munich, the thermometer is currently reading almost 36 degrees; I could fry eggs on my windowsill, and some colleagues are already putting ice packs on their heads just to manage to put even a single sentencefelherifreierror-free on paper.
But Valve is helping us cool off in two ways this year. For one, the price of the Steam Machine is bringing tears to our eyes—that’s refreshing—and for another, we can distract ourselves with the 2026 Steam Summer Sale until a thunderstorm finally rolls in this weekend.
And since I know most of you are already piling up your “Pile of Shame” to the moon anyway, I’m focusing these 11 recommendations solely on the really, really heavily discounted gems—meaning those with discounts of 90 percent or more.
Come on in.
Highlight: King’s Bounty 2
- Genre: Tactical RPG
- Release: August 2021
- Price: 4 euros, 90 percent off
Even the positive Steam reviews rightly warn: You should know exactly what you’re getting into with King’s Bounty 2. What looks at first glance like a mix of Heroes of Might and Magic and The Witcher is… well, even at second glance, it’s still a mix of Heroes and The Witcher, but it’s actually incredibly difficult. Only die-hard tactical whizzes should dare to tackle this beast.
Of course, you can also expect the usual “Euro Jank”—that is, somewhat dated visuals, all sorts of rough edges, and a classic unpolished gem. But—and this is important—you can still tell that King’s Bounty 2 is a labor of love.
A successor to Heroes that aims to do things differently from all the other tactical RPGs, which copy the classic’s formula almost exactly.
Here, you explore a truly cool fantasy world from a first-person over-the-shoulder perspective, keeping your troops alive for as long as possible. Your decisions in the story affect your character development, which in turn determines the morale of your troops. King’s Bounty 2 is a complex and challenging tactical experience. If that appeals to you in principle, a 90 percent discount should make up for any rough edges.
