The highlight of the week: Gothic 1 Remake
Genre: Role-playing |Developer: Alkimia Interactive |Release: June 5, 2026 (Steam)
There are few role-playing games in Germany that immediately evoke such strong emotions, because the original Gothic is a piece of childhood for many of you. That’s exactly why the remake will trigger intense emotions—at best, enthusiasm; at worst, sheer rage.
First, the good news:TheGothic Remakeaims to preserve many of the elements that still make the original so special today. Alkimia promises a handcrafted open world, more elaborate quest lines, and a modernized combat system, without smoothing out the rough edges of Gothic’s core too much. If that works out, there could actually be more than just a nice nostalgia trip in store here.
But anticipation could quickly turn to disillusionment:We only received our review keys this past weekend.
Experience has shown that this is never a good sign, and could be an indication that they’re still scrambling at the last minute to fix bugs, performance issues, and technical problems.
So before making a potential purchase, you’re better off waiting for our impressions—unless bugs are part of the authentic Gothic experience for you.
