Today, May 26, 2026, would have been the big day.
So, how many of you are sitting there right now, on vacation, thinking to yourselves: “I could be playing GTA 6 right now, but instead I have to go outside in this beautiful swimming weather. Ugh, that’s just not right.”
Today would have been the big day when a gaming giant would have changed the industry forever and sent the gross domestic products of entire nations plummeting.
Rockstar itself wrote at the time: “Hello everyone, Grand Theft Auto VI will now be released on May 26, 2026. We’re very sorry that this is later than you expected.”
But this “later” is a different “later” than now. Or in other words: It’s still a ways off.
Because, as we all know, this first delay to May wasn’t the end of it. GTA 6 is now set to release on November 19. But this time, it’s absolutely, positively for sure.The big chief himself gave his word of honor!
So the community is celebrating a little holiday today. The day when nothing in gaming would ever be the same again. The day we’ll hole up in front of the console all night with chips and soda until our eyes close.

People are taking it with humor. Or perhaps with gallows humor. “Okay, Forza is downloaded,” replies one user. Another writes: “Pranks that go too far.”
The whole thing is probably less funny for many developers at Rockstar Games. Because, as we hear, there’s (once again) intense crunch.
Some employees are staying in the office until 3 a.m. to get the undisputedly most anticipated game on Earth across the finish line.
In that respect, we’re actually doing pretty well: We can at least spend our wasted vacation time relaxing in the sun without any stress—temperatures are hitting the 30-degree mark almost everywhere in Germany.

How about, instead of GTA 6, firing up the grill or heading to the lake? And when it’s cold and miserable outside in November, GTA 6 will seem even more tempting. Right?
