The RPG experts have revealed, completely out of the blue, what we can expect next. Anyone hoping for more KCD will be just as thrilled as Tolkien fans.

Classic Warhorse move: casually revealing, without much of a teaser, which games they’re developing next. The months of speculation are over:It really is an RPG set in Middle-earth. And more Kingdom Come: Deliverance is coming, too.

Middle-earth RPG, KCD Adventure

On X, the official account states:

You might have heard the rumors, it’s time to reveal what we’re working on. An open-world Middle-earth RPG. A new Kingdom Come adventure. We look forward to sharing more when the time is right.

So now it’s clear: The rumors and leaks about an upcoming major role-playing game set in Tolkien’s universe are true, and with this, Warhorse is making the leap from the historical to the fantasy genre. Details aren’t known yet, but the developers have been saying for a while that their next project will once again be an immersive RPG, so we can certainly expect complex game systems like those in KCD2.

It’s also exciting to wonder what exactly might be behind the new “adventure” for Kingdom Come. It probably won’t be an RPG on the scale of its predecessors, but what exactly does “adventure” mean here? Will it be a prequel, sequel, or spin-off? Impossible to say at this point. We’ll keep you posted, of course!

And here’s a small but nice update:From aLinkedIn postreveals more details. The new Kingdom Come will also be an open-world RPG. So ”adventure” in the Twitter post doesn’t literally refer to the adventure genre. Good grief.

Release dates for both games have not yet been set.We can only go by a rough estimate based on a statement by Communications Director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, who said in a stream that it shouldn’t take another seven years until the next release. That would leave the window open until 2032 (counting from the release of KCD2).

The new KCD sounds like the smaller of the two projects and is likely to be released first—maybe even before the end of this decade?

A loud scream just went through our editorial office (from me, Steffi—apologies to all the neighbors). Feel free to write in the comments what this announcement means to you. Are you hopeful that we’ll finally get a really cool Middle-earth RPG? Are you skeptical about whether the studio can handle two projects at once?
