Crimson Desert is far from finished: In addition to new updates, the developers are now talking about DLCs for the first time

Crimson Desert is one of the biggest game releases of 2026 so far. Two months after launch, the developers have now announced plans for a DLC for the first time.

Crimson Desert is one of the biggest gaming hits of 2026 so far. Since its release on March 19, the open-world adventure from Korean developer Pearly Abyss has already sold more than 5 million copies and generated $180 million in revenue in the first quarter of the year alone.

In light of these fantastic figures, the studio recently awarded its employees a bonus payment of around $3,400. And there is no end in sight to this wave of success. Thanks to the game world’s massive scale and Pearl Abyss’s rapid update policy, Crimson Desert’s player numberson Steamstill looking fantastic.

However, Pearl Abyss’s plans for its current major project go much further: As the studio has now announced, it intends to continue releasing regular updates forCrimson Desert. The developers have also mentioned the term “DLC” for the first time.

In a recent financial briefing for its investors, the studio announced itsfinancial results for the first quarter of 2026. Although Crimson Desertwas released at the end of March, just a few days before the end of this reporting period, the studio generated approximately $180 million in revenue from the game in just those one and a half weeks.Pearl Abyss describes it as a strong and successful launch.

While sales of Crimson Desert are expected to gradually level off for the remainder of fiscal year 2026, the studio anticipates selling a total of eight to ten million copies and generating revenue between $432 million and $514 million.

DLCs are being reviewed

Given this remarkable financial success, it comes as no surprise that the development studio plans to continue providing Crimson Desert with updates and new content for a long time to come, in order to retain existing players and attract new ones. The financial statement specifically states:

This is pretty big news—because until now, the developers hadn’t said anything at all about DLCs. Although the announcement so far only states that they are exploring the development of a DLC, the fact that this has already been communicated to investors shows that Pearl Abyss is serious about an expansion for Crimson Desert—even though the game is already massive and many players still haven’t explored every corner of the continent of Pywel.
