After vociferous protests from the community, the iconic Steel Legion of Armageddon is finally making its long-awaited comeback in Warhammer 40K.

Before Warhammer 40K enters its 11th edition in a few months’ time, Games Workshop is giving the battlefield of Armageddon one last go. A new campaign book not only brings back legendary heroes, but also paves the way for a faction that many of you have been eagerly awaiting.

The grand finale with epic heroes

As has now been revealed, the current edition of Warhammer 40K is not quite over yet. The crowning finale of the 10th edition is the brand new campaign book Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick.

Lore aficionados will immediately know what this means: The bloody war against the Orcs is entering the next round. In addition to comprehensive background stories, the book also provides fresh rules for a whole range of new miniatures and units.

Especially cool: We get the legendary Commissar Yarrick (seen in the trailer above) back on the battlefield in person, and on the side of the greenskins, the motorcycle-crazy orc Wazdakka Gutsmek lets the engines roar.

Adding to this are heavy guns for your Astra Militarum, such as the new Hippogriff AFV, a leader of the Adepta Sororitas on an absolutely awesome walking throne, as well as an Imperial big game hunter who specializes in taking enemy character models out of the game.

The Steel Legion reports for duty

But what about the troops that are inextricably linked to this war-torn planet? In the new campaign book, the famous Steel Legion is conspicuous by its absence for the time being. But don’t worry:The Imperial army with the iconic gas masks is officially on its way back to the gaming tables.

So far, there are only concept drawings and blueprints (as seen in the YouTube video below) that hint at a revised design and new weapon upgrades, but at least the cat is out of the bag.

The transition to the 11th edition

The situation on Armageddon comes to such a head in the story of the new book that the Empire eventually has to urgently call in Space Marine reinforcements. And this is the perfect narrative bridge: in June, Warhammer 40K officially enters its 11th edition.

In the upcoming launch box, which will also be set on Armageddon, the Blood Angels will then descend from the heavens to face the never-ending Ork hordes.

The fact that such an extensive campaign book is being published so shortly before the edition change may seem unusual at first glance. However, Games Workshop has confirmed that the current Codex books and expansions such as The Return of Yarrick will be fully compatible with the new version of the game. So you don’t have to worry about your freshly painted armies suddenly losing their validity.
