When gamers become parents, the kids come first and the hobby takes a back seat. Fortunately, there are handhelds.
With children comes responsibility; gamers then put their hobby on the back burner. This is exactly what Cumcumba did, who wrote a flaming review of the PlayStation Portal on Reddit:
If you’re a gamer who’s become a parent, you probably know the exact moment when you realize that your long gaming sessions are now a thing of the past.

Cumcumba starts by talking about his career as a player:
- He started out with the NES and Sega Master System; gaming was always his greatest passion.
- His current PC cost around 7,000 US dollars.
- Gaming always took up most of his free time. He has been on Steam for 18 years and has spent thousands of hours playing WoW, Counter Strike and League of Legends, among others.
However, his hobby gradually took a back seat. Work, his relationship and finally his child became more and more important.
To appease his inner, dissatisfied child, Cumcumba finally bought a PS5 – but that didn’t help either. He couldn’t block the family TV all the time.
Five months ago, he bought a PlayStation Portal; the gamer himself calls it “a revelation”. He calls it the best hardware purchase he’s made in 10 years and the many benefits it brings.
That’s what Cumcumba always wanted, because it means he can play whenever he wants in between his fatherly duties. Or when his wife Bridgerton is watching.
And this console has helped me to get back to my favorite hobby – which until then had mostly only caused me frustration because I no longer had time for it.
The community celebrates the success
The top comment probably says a lot about what makes the community tick and speaks to the hearts of many.
Are you me?

Many of those commenting under the thread empathize with Cumcumba. One player even admits that he would never have been able to play through Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey if it hadn’t been for his PS Portal.
Other parents also share their experiences with the handheld – and point out further advantages.
I have a 6-year-old, and there are games I can’t play on my TV when he’s around, like Resident Evil: Requiem. With the Portal, that’s no longer a problem.
