Clothing made from frog leather is currently all the rage in Azeroth—but the animals are dying in large numbers as a result.
Since Friday, those who pre-ordered the Epic Edition have been able to battle their way through WoW’s latest expansion, Midnight. They explore new and revamped areas, follow the story surrounding Xal’atath, and kill frogs en masse. The latter, however, is not a feature devised by Blizzard, but once again a farming method discovered by the community.
Those poor frogs again
It’s frog season at the small Whispering Pool just outside Silvermoon. The animals spawn extremely quickly here, which inevitably leads to them now being farmed by players.
In the group search, you will currently find many requests for the “Frog Farm” in Immersang Forest. However, the gloomy-bellied toads that live there do not carry any valuable loot.
The players simply want to get their hands on the toads, literally. Anyone who wants to level up the professions furriery and then leatherworking naturally needs materials to do so.
A manageable location with quickly recurring frogs is perfect for this.
Players are exploiting this little exploit as best they can. The leather and other materials produced by skinning not only allow you to level up your own profession, but the mats can also be easily converted into gold at the auction house.
Is this intentional?
Most likely not. The respawn timers for enemies are often linked to the number of players in an area to prevent long waiting times.
Every now and then, however, this system unintentionally goes a little too far, leading to spots where farm exploits like the one at this pond are possible.
“Frog farming” already existed in the 2012 expansion Mists of Pandaria. There were also fast-spawning toads on the Timeless Isle, which even made a comeback in MoP Remix. Back then, there was even significantly better loot.
Unlike the exploit in MoP, the materials from Stillwhisper Pond are not particularly rare, and it should not cause any major damage to the game economy. However, it is only a matter of time before Blizzard puts a stop to the mass murder of frogs. So if you still need some leather, you should hurry up.
