The return to Minental is further delayed. The Gothic Remake now has a release date in June 2026 – will it stick?
The return to Minental in the Gothic Remake has been the most eagerly awaited gaming moment for many German role-playing fans for years. But while hopes for a release in the first quarter of 2026 were high until recently, the latest announcement from publisher THQ Nordic has caused disillusionment.
As part of the latest financial results of parent company Embracer, the official release date has now been announced. nbsp;According to this, the Gothic remake will be released on June 5, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
This means that the title will slip out of Embracer’s current fiscal year, which ends on March 31. But before we talk about that, check out the brand-new trailer for the release announcement:
What the release delay means
This postponement is very significant for THQ Nordic and the Embracer Group. The remake is considered the most important project in the entire portfolio at present. The fact that the game will now not be released until June, after the end of the current fiscal year (to “allow time for the finishing touches”), could have an impact on the company’s valuation.
Analysts had firmly expected revenue from the sale of the Gothic remake in the first quarter. However, Embracer now reports that company-wide net sales have slumped by 26 percent. The company has recently undergone major changes, including mass layoffs and project cancellations. At the end of 2025, the Coffee Stain Group (Deep Rock Galactic, Satisfactory) was also separated from the rest of the business.
Despite the disappointment over the additional weeks of waiting, expectations remain high. The developers repeatedly emphasize that they want to not only modernize the world of Barrier visually, but also expand it in a meaningful way in terms of gameplay.
New quests and a more vibrant game world are intended to round out the experience. In the end, for most of you, only one thing matters: that the remake lives up to the legend, even if the road to get there is now a little longer than hoped for.
