Road to Vostok will soon enter the testing phase, and the exact date and price have been announced.

Finnish solo developer Antti Leinonen has been working on Road to Vostok for several years. After a lot of work and feedback from players of the free demos, the early access launch on Steam is now imminent. The game is currently ranked 6th among the most wanted single-player shooters on Steam.

Early Access release of Road to Vostok

  • Release date: Early Access starts on April 7, 2026.
  • Price: The Standard Edition on Steam will cost €20, but there will be a limited-time 25% discount at launch. There will also be a Supporters Edition with the soundtrack and concept art.
  • Early Access plans: Leinonen expects it to take two to four years to reach the full version. During this time, the amount of content is expected to double.

According to the developer, over 700,000 Steam players have played his demos, and Road to Vostok is on the wish list of 600,000 users.

How Road to Vostok is played

The setting is a post-apocalyptic border region between Finland and Russia. Although there are similarities to Escape from Tarkov in terms of visuals and the level of realism of the weapons, it is not an extraction shooter.

It’s more of a survival experience where you search the game world for loot and dismantle scrap into useful parts. You can then purchase useful items from merchants. However, since there is no currency, you have to barter and haggle.

Bandits and corrupt border guards force you to take up arms to reach the final area, Vostok. However, this is a permadeath zone.

Other features include a day-night cycle, dynamic weather and seasons, and shelters that you can set up and equip yourself.

If you want to learn a little more about Road to Vostok, our colleague Tillmann has already spent an unplanned but welcome long session playing the single-player shooter and was thrilled by its dense and suspenseful atmosphere. In addition, you can currently try out a free demo on Steam.
