The second season of Battlefield 6 is coming late, but we already know about the first new map. And a classic from Battlefield 4 is also coming back – at some point.
In terms of size, it’s supposed to be somewhere between Eastwood and Mirak Valley, the new map from Battlefield 6. In a official blog post, Battlefield Studios throws even more references into the ring: Think of St. Quentin Scar from Battlefield 1 or Arras from Battlefield 5 – that’s the kind of scale you can expect on Contaminated, as it’s called.
Thanks to the leaked trailer, we know even more: Contaminated is set in Germany, at the so-called Hagental base, which sounds like the most German of all German names.
The first official image also gives us a glimpse of the layout: you can expect battles in the mountains, similar to Exposure from Battlefield 2042, and you’ll also be shooting your way across the base itself. The leaked trailer also shows various trenches and hilltop situations.

Contamined is currently being tested behind closed doors in the Battlefield Labs program. The blog post states:
We are looking at how gameplay with vehicles and, above all, aircraft interacts with infantry combat, as well as the placement of cover and resources and the boundaries of the objectives. We will also be testing how the map’s unique game mechanics work in live matches and what tools are available to players for interaction.
In plain English: the devs are still testing everything. The boundaries around the objective points and the ratio of vehicles to infantry are the big points of discussion that still run through all modes of Battlefield 6. The latest patches have hit Breakthrough mode particularly hard.
Further announcements for the future
But the blog post contains even more interesting information. As part of Battlefield Labs, a lot of testing is being done on the new helicopter, the AH-6 Little Bird, which is also set to be released to the public in Season 2.
In addition, fundamental areas that affect all aspects of Battlefield 6 are being investigated, most notably the still problematic hit registration.
Redsec is also getting a solo mode: The fact that we can’t try out Battle Royale on our own yet is one of the big blind spots of Battlefield 6, where the competition offers significantly more flexibility.
Exactly when it will be released remains to be seen.
And here’s another treat for the distant future: a classic from Battlefield 4 is already playable in Battlefield Labs – the Golmud Railway map. The map is set to be added to the game in one of the future seasons, and we will of course keep you up to date.
The second season of Battlefield 6 was originally scheduled to start in January 2026, but was then spontaneously postponed to February 17, 2026. As a consolation prize, you’ll get an additional bonus Battle Pass path that you can level up until then.
