In a recent interview, the developers promised several new maps for the coming months. The first roadmap is to be unveiled shortly.

The winter event Flickering Flames in Arc Raiders is over, and fans are slowly beginning to wonder what will happen next in 2026 with Embarks’ successful shooter. A new roadmap for the coming months has not yet been revealed; instead, the developers have focused on refining matchmaking and cracking down on cheaters in recent weeks.

Behind closed doors, however, work is already underway on upcoming content for the extraction shooter, as Embark’s lead designer Virgil Watkins revealed in an interview with GamesRadar+. And the unveiling of the content roadmap for the spring may be just around the corner.

When asked about the planned release schedule for new game content such as maps, weapons, missions, and enemies, Watkins replied:  I think we’ll be releasing part of our roadmap for the coming months shortly. But at the moment, we’re still in the process of determining exactly what that schedule will look like. We’ll be spreading this [content] out over the coming year.

While this is still no concrete date for the roadmap, Watkins revealed further interesting information about Embark’s content plans during the interview. For example, the studio plans to release not just one, but several new maps this year:

Several maps will be released this year, and I think they will vary in size to accommodate different playstyles. So there will be some smaller maps, but also some that are even larger than the ones we currently have.

The last new map for Arc Raiders was Stella Montis, released in December, which takes you into the underground passages of an abandoned research base. With its narrow corridors and blind corners, the map was primarily designed to spice up PvP in Arc Raiders. The new maps will also have their own consequences for the gameplay experience.

Our goal is to create new gaming experiences, whether through the conditions on the map or the weather conditions we incorporate to change the feel of the game, through different types or compositions of enemies, or through an expansion of the available loot.

Of course, adding a new map has its own novelty, and it’s a new place to play and do things. But what else? Thematically, gameplay-wise. How do the enemies, items, and experiences in this map all point to something? It’s about bringing together these thematically related elements that give you that feeling of, “Oh, guys, the new update for Arc Raiders just came out. Let’s try it out!”

What’s next?

Following this announcement, many players are now wondering which map Embark will tackle next. The first rumors are already circulating online rumors are already circulating online that Arc Raiders may soon take us to a volcanic region. This is because a distinctive volcanic cone called Volcano Rise has been marked on the game’s official world map for some time now.

Such a map could then confront us with deadly lava flows and new environmental conditions such as intense heat or falling rocks. Incidentally, the Arc Raiders world map is based on the Italian region of Naples, so the volcano in question would be Vesuvius, which buried the Roman city of Pompeii under its ashes in the past.

The next update does not appear to include a new map for the time being. Instead, there are currently several indications that we can expect the launch of a new map modifier in the coming days that will send us into toxic swamps. Well, if Embark hasn’t taken a leaf out of FromSoftware’s book…
