Hacking attack on Ubisoft: Perpetrators allegedly threaten massive leak, all information on the current status

Rainbox Six Siege is said to have been just the beginning. Reports are circulating that the publisher has been the target of a much larger data theft.

Update from December 28, 2025, 4:45 p.m.: According to unconfirmed reports, Ubisoft has also fallen victim to a hacker attack beyond Rainbox Six: Siege.

So reported  among others, X-user Zephryss, a moderator of the well-known Assassin’s Creed fan site  The Ones Who Came Before, reports the following:

• A group of hackers is said to have gained access to the source code of all Ubisoft titles since the 1990s—including all games currently in development.
• In total, the group is said to have accessed over 900 GB of data.
• The perpetrators are now reportedly blackmailing Ubisoft with the release of sensitive data.

Ubisoft has reportedly been hacked by 4 different groups according to recent reports. Here is more information:

We emphasize: Currently, none of this information has been officially confirmed and should therefore be considered a rumor – but one with a serious background. We have contacted Ubisoft and will update you here if we receive a response.

Original message from December 28, 2025, 11:30 a.m.: Chaos has reigned on the Rainbow Six: Siege servers over the past few days. The reason is an attack by hackers, which had far-reaching consequences. Ubisoft has now spoken out and clarified who will face consequences and how things will proceed.

A Christmas gift of the shady variety

What happened? Numerous Siege players were astonished after unknown individuals apparently tampered with their game accounts. Screenshots of the resulting commotion can be found in this tweet, among other places:

Now it gets weird: Instead of messing around with the affected game accounts, the hackers decided to play Santa Claus and hand out gifts.

Billions of R6 Credits, Alpha Packs, and exclusive items suddenly appeared in the victims’ accounts. The downside: numerous accounts were banned due to the suspicious activity, even though the actual owners had done nothing wrong.

Ubisoft clarifies: no bans of user accounts

Ubisoft has now issued a new statement. Although the publisher does not go into the exact details of the incident, it does have some clear words for affected users who fear for their accounts:

• No one will be banned for spending the credits they received. All transactions will be reversed via rollback anyway.
• Neither the huge wave of account suspensions nor the in-game ticker about bans were initiated by Ubisoft.
• We are working hard behind the scenes to find a solution.

So the good news is that you don’t have to worry about any penalties if your account has been affected by the hacker activity.

The bad news, however, is that Ubisoft still doesn’t seem to be completely in control of the situation, admitting in its statement that it is not responsible for the bans and that it is working on a solution.

Better late than never, so here’s a final piece of advice from us: it’s best not to log into your Siege account until Ubisoft has completely fixed the mess and third parties can no longer cause chaos. Although you don’t have to worry about being banned, you can still save yourself a lot of trouble.
