If you never really got into math at school, this shooter game from an inventive father might have been just the thing for you.
If anything can motivate young gamers to learn math, it’s probably a game called Math FPS: Solve or Die. This was the idea of a father and indie developer whose son wasn’t really into adding and subtracting, but loved video games.

In a Reddit post, the developer behind the game explains: “My son loves Fortnite, but has a hard time getting excited about math… so I thought a math FPS game might help us.“
How does the game work?
As a player, you must defend yourself against waves of enemy robots. Above each opponent is a math problem, and different solutions are displayed on their head, chest, and legs, one of which is correct.
Of course, the enemy will only fall if you shoot the correct solution. Wrong answers are punished with an enemy attack.
The problems become more difficult with each wave. Currently, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division can be practiced individually or in a mixed mode.
The game has been available on Steam in early access since December 5, 2025, at a price of 5 euros. New game modes and more difficult tasks are to be added in the coming months.
Community loves idea
Reddit users commenting on the post are enthusiastic about the math shooter. StromGames, for example, writes: ”This is just brilliant.” RYamtstisch is convinced: ”You are the father of the decade. Simply amazing. I wish I had had games like this when I was a child.”
SnurflerPuffinz says: ”Good parenting, I say. Seriously, I wish parents would take the initiative more often.“ In a way, user unayung also directly and explains: ”I’m definitely buying this for my son.”
The community also has lots of ideas for new features, such as unlocking new areas by solving particularly difficult equations or more challenging opponents who can take multiple hits. So there are even more ways to make math significantly more interesting for students with motivation problems using video game elements.
