Poor graphics and only available for VR – the first official video game based on The Boys is not exactly causing waves of excitement.
The Boys has long since become what the brutal anti-superhero series once parodied: a fairly broad franchise with a whole range of spin-offs and soon an official video game.
The Boys is getting an official video game, but there are two catches
The game is called Trigger Warning
and comes with two major catches that will make even the most seasoned fans frown: The official The Boys game will be released exclusively for VR (specifically Meta Quest and PSVR2), while the graphics are anything but impressive.
The response among the first reveal trailer on YouTube has been relatively moderate, but there’s no sign of cheers and applause either. User Emoney2yz speaks for most fans of The Boys with the following comment:
Is this the best we can do for a video game based on The Boys?
Why fans of The Boys and VR have every reason to be excited
But at least owners of a VR headset (which, to be fair, is a relatively small niche) are looking forward to Trigger Warning with a certain amount of anticipation. And for good reason.
The creative minds behind the TV series are also involved in the official video game for The Boys, and a few members of the cast are also appearing, such as Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk), Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett), and P.J. Byrne (Adam Bourke).
Ricardo Justus, founder and studio head of Arvore, announced:
From the outset, we wanted to create an adaptation [of The Boys] that was developed together with the people who shaped this universe. Working with the series’ writers and cast allowed us to capture the edginess, humor, and brutality that make the series so iconic […].
What is the plot of Trigger Warning about? We slip into the role of a poor devil who accidentally stumbles upon Vought’s sinister machinations and is turned into a Supe against his will. Now, of course, we want to hold Vought accountable, so we’re working with Billy Butcher’s team.
In terms of gameplay, The Boys: Trigger Warning will offer a mix of action and stealth gameplay. The release is planned for spring 2026, while the price will be around 22 euros.
Incidentally, the fifth and final season of The Boys will premiere on April 8, 2026, on Amazon Prime Video – which will also be the series finale. An official trailer for the final episodes has just been released, and it has some shocking implications.
