“Now I can play Rush in both The Finals and BF6, which is great,” comments one fan.
Battlefield 6 is getting competition. Or to be more precise: the popular Rush mode from Battlefield is getting competition!
As Embark Studios has announced, The Finals will feature a new mode starting in Season 9 that sounds exactly like the original.
What has been revealed?
The Finals will start on December 10, 2025, at 5 p.m. in Season 9. The highlight is clearly Fangwei City, a completely new (and, as usual, fully destructible) map in China.
In addition, there is also the new Point Break mode. This breaks with the usual format of several teams of three competing for the cash safes in the arena (Cashout mode).
Instead, two teams of eight players each face off, divided into attackers and defenders. Here are the details in the video:
The attackers’ goal is to blow up a series of mission objectives one after the other and then advance, while the defenders try to prevent this and defuse the bombs as long as the fuse is burning.
On paper, this sounds almost identical to Rush. The mode has enjoyed great popularity among Battlefield players since the Bad Company series. Even the MCOMs from Battlefield are represented in Point Break as large yellow containers.
Who’s stealing from whom here?
Many of the developers at Embark Studios are former DICE employees and previously worked on Battlefield. Several of Embark’s founders, such as Patrick Söderlund, Carl-Magnus Nordin, and Rob Runesson, played a key role in the success of the BF series before making a name for themselves with The Finals and
Arc Raiders.
BF6, for its part, borrowed many design ideas from The Finals for its new tournament mode, Gauntlet, and now The Finals seems to want to attract a few fans of larger team battles to its side.
“A chaotic 8v8 mode sounds like fun and should be very helpful in bringing new players on board,” commented one user.
The steep learning curve of the standard Cashout mode has been considered one of the biggest hurdles in The Finals community for years.
What do the fans say?
“Looks like Embark hasn’t forgotten its Battlefield roots,” writes one user on X (formerly Twitter) under the post about the new Point Break mode.
Enthusiasm is also spreading on Reddit: “Point Break sounds incredibly similar to Rush. For two years, I’ve been convinced that it would be a great fit for The Finals. I’m glad it’s happening now,” it says here.
It remains to be seen whether The Finals will really be able to cut a slice of Battlefield 6’s success cake in Season 9.
When it comes to destruction, however, the Embark shooter is already way ahead of its competition: thanks to impressive physics and server technology, all buildings in the game can be destroyed in an extremely realistic manner.
