Bethesda has released a new version of Fallout 4 to mark the anniversary, but fans are dissatisfied with both the price and the content.
It has now been ten years since the last proper Fallout role-playing game was released. But Bethesda hasn’t forgotten the franchise and continues to deliver regular updates for the MMO Fallout 76, as well as an anniversary version of Fallout 4. However, this has not been well received by fans.
Mostly negative on Steam
Fallout fans who aren’t interested in MMOs have been left high and dry for many years. Given the numerous speculations about a Fallout 3 remaster, many of them were hoping for a big announcement on Fallout Day in October.
Instead, the Anniversary Edition of Fallout 4 was announced. In addition to all the expansions, it includes 150 pieces of fan-created content, including skins, shelters, and weapons.
While Fallout 4 has an overall 85 percent positive rating on Steam, recent reviews only 62 percent. The situation is even worse for the Creations Bundle, which was released as part of the Anniversary Edition. It currently stands at just 24 percent positive reviews and thus achieves the status mostly negative
.
Fans are disappointed
Most of the 150 pieces of content are skins and paint jobs, some of which were already available through Creation Club. Nevertheless, Bethesda is charging $60 for the new version. $40 if you already own the game and $20 if you already have the Game of the Year Edition in your library.
Fans are not only disappointed with the content, but also extremely angry about the high price they are being asked to pay for it.
On Reddit, user ElJefeGrande2377 adds: They [Bethesda] repackage old stuff in a shiny box and charge extra money for it.
Also Jtenka is anything but happy with the new version: Fallout 4 Creative Bankruptcy Edition. Haven’t you downloaded the NEW creations? New dog, weapon, and armor skins.
However, many people have expressed their incomprehension at the disappointment. After all, Bethesda communicated what you could expect from the version. Furthermore, no one was forced to buy the version before all the content was announced.
This is what Admire: My roommate was completely ecstatic. Then he texted me at work this morning and told me how disappointed he is. They didn’t hide anything and they said what would be included.
Some users make it clear that they found the Anniversary Edition of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim much better, as it at least included some truly new content. This included a survival mode, the ability to fish, wild tameable horses, and more.
