The controversy surrounding the maps in Battlefield 6 is entering the next round. Users on Reddit have now dug up statistics that supposedly prove that the maps in the new EA shooter are simply too small.
Battlefield 6 actually got off to a really good start. Many players feel that the latest installment in the series has returned to its former glory for the first time in a long time – or at least almost. Because there has been controversy surrounding one issue since the shooter’s first public beta test phase. Many players feel that the maps in Battlefield 6 are far too small.
They complain that the maps in earlier Battlefield installments were much more expansive and that the new small maps make the game too similar to the claustrophobic conditions of Call of Duty. This means that you are almost always in the enemy’s sights, no matter where you are.
After the map debate had been simmering in the community for several weeks, a Reddit user has finally presented concrete figures. In a post on the discussion platform, ClaraTheRed presented a graphic comparing the map sizes of various Battlefield spin-offs and also provided statistics with the exact dimensions of the maps shown in square kilometers.
This makes it clear: The maps in Battlefield 6 are actually smaller than many of the maps in its predecessors. The acclaimed BF3 and 4 also had small maps for urban combat matches, but that wasn’t all.
Battlefield 3, in particular, offered gigantic playgrounds for tanks, jets, and helicopters with maps such as Bandar Desert and Alborz Mountains. But Battlefield 4 also scored points in this regard with maps such as Paracel Storm and Golmud Railway. And while we’re on the subject of Paracel Storm: water maps with boats are completely absent from Battlefield 6 (with the exception of Battle Royale mode).

In a direct comparison, it is also striking that even Battlefield 2042, which is largely unpopular with fans, came with a fairly impressive package in terms of map size. The largest map in Battlefield 6’s multiplayer, on the other hand, is a recycled classic from an older Battlefield spin-off: Operation Firestorm.
Size isn’t everything
However, it’s not just the sheer size of the maps that interests the community. Many users criticize in the comments under the Reddit post that the shape and layout of the maps are also important quality criteria for them.
User TheBurdensNotYourOwn writes, for example, that he likes the Liberation Peak map in Battlefield 6 because, unlike most other new maps, it has an irregular U-shape that makes it impossible to see the enemy spawn. The new Blackwell Fields map, on the other hand, is not well received because jet pilots are virtually under enemy fire from the moment they spawn. Overall, the community agrees that Battlefield 6 lacks variety in its maps. Classics from the past, such as Strike at Karkand, managed to offer intense house-to-house combat for infantry as well as space for land and air vehicles. So far, the Battlefield 6 maps force the community too much into predetermined corridors, and the infantry focus is clearly noticeable in the levels.
