Our guide for Borderlands 4 shows you the exact farm spot on the planet Kairos where you can find the legendary Hellfire SMG and defeat the boss responsible with ease.

Borderlands 4 is finally here, and with it, some of the most iconic weapons in the series’ history are making a comeback. At the top of many Vault Hunters’ wish lists is the Hellfire, a submachine gun that has been known for its high fire damage and ability to melt enemies since Part 1. We’ll show you where to find the weapon in Borderlands 4 and how to farm it efficiently.

How to farm the Hellfire in Borderlands 4

Good news for all collectors: Hellfire is not a random world drop, but is dropped by a specific boss called Skykey Scratch .

Here’s exactly how to do it:

  • Where? Head to the “Terminus Expanse” region.
  • The farm spot: Within this region, your destination is the “Humpback Trail” area. There, you’ll fight your way through the mine, at the end of which the boss is waiting, carrying the Hellfire. You can see the exact location on the following map:

  • The farming loop: After defeating the boss for the first time, activate the “Moxy’s Encore” machine to make the enemy reappear immediately. After each subsequent victory, you can use a convenient teleporter that takes you right back to the beginning of the boss area, allowing you to restart the fight immediately without having to walk long distances.

A little tip on the side: Collect the remaining loot as scrap metal with the Q key during each run. This way, you can quickly sell everything at a vending machine between attempts, and your farming rounds will practically finance themselves.

How to defeat the boss in no time

For those who are now expecting a tough fight, there is more good news: the boss itself is surprisingly easy to defeat and poses little threat. Its only real source of damage is the adds it summons. Watch out for two types of enemies:

  • Exploding balloons: These float slowly toward you.
  • Small larvae: These crawl very quickly across the ground and can deal significant damage.

The key advantage for you: Both the balloons and the larvae can only withstand a single hit. So you can quickly get rid of them before they become dangerous.

The boss himself only has one red health bar, which makes him extremely vulnerable to fire damage. So pack your best fire weapons. A Maliwan SMG with licensed Jakobs accessories is particularly effective – the ricocheting shots often take out the balloons and larvae all by themselves.

If you want to make the fight a breeze, equip a heavy fire weapon from Maliwan. This will cause the boss to explode so quickly that he barely has time to launch his attacks.

What makes the Hellfire so special in Borderlands 4?

Fans of the series will notice a big change:
In Borderlands 4, the Hellfire is no longer manufactured by Maliwan, but by the new manufacturer Ripper.
As is usual for Ripper weapons, the Hellfire needs to be charged briefly before it fires. However, this charging time is really short, making it feel almost like a fully automatic SMG and hardly affecting its high rate of fire.

While the fire element type and manufacturer always remain the same, other parts of the weapon may vary. For example, your version may have an alternative fire mode such as a rocket launcher – as always, you’ll need a bit of luck when farming to get the perfect variant.
