Battlefield 2042 currently costs a mere 3 euros and has even received a major update with a new map, new weapons, and more.

It’s a story we’ve seen too many times before: DICE releases a Battlefield or Battlefront game with serious problems, it matures over the years with customers, and only experiences its real spring when it’s actually much too late. This is also the case with the latest Battlefield 2042.

But: We don’t have to wait much longer for Battlefield 6, and we’re definitely keeping our fingers crossed that it won’t be a disappointment. However, if your hands are still burning after the Battlefield 6 open beta and you’re desperate for more, check out Battlefield 2042. It’s really worth it right now – for two reasons.

Reason 1: Battlefield 2042 is currently very cheap

Until September 2, 2025, Battlefield 2042 costs a mere $3 via Steam, which is a whopping 95 percent discount. The package includes the base game with all maps and modes. For $13.50, you can get the Elite Edition. This includes all the content released in the first year of Battlefield 2042, such as additional specialists, new weapons, and so on. Our recommendation: Play the base game first – you can still upgrade until September 2.

Reason 2: Battlefield 2042 just got a big patch

No one would have expected this: Battlefield 2042 received a comprehensive content update just in time for the open beta of Battlefield 6, even though the game is actually already in the so-called sunsetting phase, meaning it is gradually being shut down to make room for the sequel. And this update is no small fry.

With Iwo Jima, you get a free remake of a famous Battlefield map, complete with an active volcano. Splinter Cell fans will also be delighted with the KFS2000, a new sniper rifle, two new fighter jets, and a free Battle Pass with 60 ranks full of cosmetics that you can unlock in-game.

None of this was necessary, so DICE definitely deserves credit for giving the community such a gift. The update is already live, so you can check out the new content for yourself for $3. Battlefield 6 will be released on October 10, 2025, in less than two months.
