We’re not jealous, but some stories about Counter-Strike in-game items make us… think.
If you also wake up every morning thinking, “Oh, half a million dollars and I wouldn’t have to work anymore,” then the following news is likely to make you grind your teeth: In 2023, after almost ten years of inactivity, a lucky guy kissed by fortune reactivated his Steam account and was completely stunned to discover that he owned in-game items worth half a million dollars.
It’s old news that items from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are being sold for dizzying prices, but in this case, a lot of coincidences came together: The lucky user now owned extremely rare in-game items, including Katowice stickers from 2014, some of which worth more than $60,000 – and he or she had no idea of their own quasi-fortune. In 2014, the stickers were logically worth only a fraction of today’s price, but the long period of inactivity allowed the inventory to mature like a damn good wine. The streamer and trader TDM_Heyzeus acted as a middleman to bring the trade to fruition and reported on it via Twitter:
Just middlemanned a huge deal for a forgotten inventory of Kato 2014 Holos.
The inventory was completely unknown and the owner had no idea how much they were worth. Luckily this story had a happy ending and they’ve just made a life-changing amount of money. pic.twitter.com/FRI3OmYRgp

Literally translated:
Just closed a huge deal as a broker for an inventory full of 2014 Kato holos. The inventory was completely unknown to the owner—he or she had no idea how much the stickers were worth. Luckily, the story had a happy ending and the person just made a life-changing amount of money.

Of course, we’re happy for the lucky guy and his well-deserved $446,894, but we can’t help feeling a little envious. With half a million euros, we could almost buy a 12-square-meter apartment in Munich. Sigh.
