The port of Frostpunk 2 to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will be released on September 18, 2025, with a Day One release on Xbox Game Pass for consoles. This means that subscribers will benefit immediately at no extra cost. 11bit Studios is offering two high-quality Collector’s Editions: the Icebreaker Edition with a pop-up diorama, art book, and novella, and theWhiteout Edition with LED shadow box, postcards, patch, stickers, and integrated deluxe upgrade for all three DLCs.

Controller fans can look forward to a significantly improved interface: a radial context menu appears above resource piles, bumper buttons quickly switch districts, and the completely redesigned UI feels particularly intuitive with thumbsticks. These controls make complex strategies playable without feeling sluggish – and will also be available on PC via gamepad in the future. Hotfixes and Patch 1.2, which introduced Serenity Mode, sandbox expansions, and other convenience features in May 2025, are particularly useful.

Frostpunk 2 on consoles – now everything counts

Only after this introduction: Frostpunk 2 is set in 1916, around three decades after the volcanic winter. Players take on the role of the “Steward” and rule New London with the help of oil, politics, and social maneuvering. The main enemies are no longer extreme weather conditions, but inner-city factional struggles. Laws take effect through city council votes and directly influence stability or uprisings.

The upcoming DLCs Spectrum and Aurora will substantially expand the game world. Spectrum will launch in fall 2025, while Aurora has been postponed to 2026.
Players with the Deluxe or Whiteout Edition remain flexible in terms of costs. The modding-friendly FrostKit allows you to create your own scenarios right from the start – ideal for creative strategy fans.
