Whether it fits the setting even remotely seems to be irrelevant: CoD is continuing its trend toward increasingly flashy skins. After comic characters Beavis and Butt-Head recently found their way onto the battlefields of Black Ops 6, Stan Smith and the alien Roger from the TV series American Dad are now also getting in on the action.

For many fans, this is now literally too much of a good thing: after one day on YouTube, the trailer (see above) received three times as many thumbs down as thumbs up.

Many players also see the bizarre crossover actions as a threat to the upcoming installment: “If Black Ops 6 is this ridiculous, then the question is how much worse it will be in Black Ops 7.”

Fans assume that the carry-forward system will allow certain elements such as weapons and operators (including their skins) to be carried over to the new installment, as was previously the case with MW2 and MW3.

On Twitter, the announcement about American Dad in CoD has been met with widespread disbelief and anger. One user writes: “This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen, you should go back to making decent CoD games.” He receives 1,300 likes for this comment.

Another user agrees: “This used to be a game about war, not some stupid Fortnite. What the hell happened?” Some fans are posting images from CoD 4: Modern Warfare and CoD: World at War. “Where have the good old days gone?” is the general sentiment.
