After Epic Games didn’t have any big names on offer in recent weeks, this week brings a real treat.

One of the best-known and best examples of the 4X strategy genre is available for free this week in the Epic Games Store. Not only can you get the main game Civilization 6, but also the complete Platinum Edition with lots of additional content. Now that’s what we call a good deal!

Civilization 6

Genre: Global strategy game – Developer: Firaxis Games – Release: October 21, 2016

This week, you can get the Platinum Edition of Civilization 6 in the Epic Games Store. In addition to the main game, it includes the following DLCs:

  • Viking Scenario Pack
  • Poland Civilization & Scenario Pack
  • Australia Civilization & Scenario Pack
  • Persia & Macedonia Civilization & Scenario Pack
  • Nubia Civilization & Scenario Pack
  • Khmer & Indonesia Civilization & Scenario Pack
  • The Rise and Fall expansion
  • The Gathering Storm expansion

From a variety of peoples with different bonuses and characteristics, you choose one that you want to build into a great civilization throughout the course of history.

On the large world map consisting of the famous Sechecken, you first look for a place for your people’s first settlement.
From there, you explore your surroundings, encounter other empires, city-states, and even bandits.

All of these areas play a role for you, but your decisions in politics and research determine your priorities. Whether you rise to become a trading or military power or a world religion, there are many ways to win the game.

Civ 6 features many interlocking mechanics. If you want to delve deeper into the subject matter, we recommend our review of Civ 6. The game has an average rating of 88 on Metacritic. Civ 6 wasn’t particularly popular with veterans of the series when it was first released, as the poor AI and new colorful comic book look weren’t to the liking of die-hard fans. However, over time, part 6 was able to establish itself and became a success, albeit somewhat belatedly.

As always, you have exactly one week, until July 17, 2025, at 5 p.m., to get the game for free in the Epic Games Store.
