Gears of War returns with Reloaded, a technically revamped remaster – available for the first time on PlayStation 5 and Steam. The release is just around the corner.

Good news for shooter fans – and especially for those who have only heard about Gears of War: one of the best single-player shooters is returning – for the first time on PlayStation 5 and Steam.

Gears of War: Reloaded isn’t the first remaster of the third-person shooter, but it is the most ambitious After the Ultimate Edition delivered a modern update for Xbox One and PC in 2015, Reloaded now brings the whole thing to the current generation of technology.

What’s included? An overview of the new features

The new edition offers the complete package: All content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is included, including all DLCs, bonus campaign files, multiplayer maps, and characters. Technically, Reloaded is quite impressive:

  • 4K resolution and HDR
  • 60 FPS in the campaign, 120 FPS in multiplayer (on consoles – there is of course no FPS limit on PC)
  • Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos, 3D Spatial Audio
  • Remastered textures, improved shadows and reflections
  • Super Resolution, anti-aliasing and variable refresh rate (VRR)
  • No loading times in the campaign
  • Cross-play and cross-progression on all platforms

Important: Reloaded is not a remake like Resident Evil 2 or Dead Space, but a remaster. This means that the basic framework, level design, and gameplay remain true to the original. The developers have massively revamped the technology and visuals, but have not changed any fundamental elements.

Gears of War: Reloaded will be released on August 26, 2025, and will cost $40 in the US and €50 in Europe. Owners of the digital Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive the remaster for free. And of course, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass upon release.

Are you excited for the comeback? Or are you skeptical that another remaster will be enough to get you excited in 2025? Let us know in the comments!
