Baron and dragon buffs are a key advantage for your team in LoL. It is all the more annoying to lose a nearly slain monster to the opponent through clever manoeuvres. Here are the 5 cheekiest such steals.

Deciding a game in LoL for your own team is often not that easy. In close games, an Elder or Baron buff can easily make the difference and directly mean victory – or defeat. Thus, the battle for the Nexus quickly becomes a battle for the epic monsters. However, there are no rules for the latter, which is why it rarely turns out fair. We show you how it looks – with the most audacious monster steals in League of Legends at the moment.

LEC Summer ’21 – G2 vs Rogue

The LoL pros are anything but innocent when it comes to risky manoeuvres and brazen outplays. On the contrary: often the cheekiest mechanics are taken to the extreme in competitive play.

In the encounter between the top European teams G2 Esports and Rogue, a particularly close duel took place. ADC Martin “Rekkles” Larsson on Varus wanted to make the most of the chance to get a Baron buff for his team. With Varus’ arrow, he managed to finish off the monster through the wall, while his jungler provided a distraction in the pit.

The buff gave G2 the strength they needed for the teamfights to come, so they were able to pull away well from their opponent and win the game in the end.

As the pros go, so goes Reddit

Even less professional LoL players naturally find pleasure in advancing their team through steals. Much like Rekkles, user “Christianzp” uses Varus in the Reddit clip to steal the Elder Dragon from the opposing team.

Here, the steal is even more influential than in the pro players’ match. The opponents are so flustered by the sudden loss that the blue team easily finds the attack and as a result even wins the teamfight with ease.

In, Drake, Out

As a melee fighter, top lane and jungle champion Volibear is actually not the best choice for a steal. However, some pros still manage to do just that on him with impressive mechanics. XL Esports’ match against Fnatic in this year’s LEC Summer held such a situation.

XL’s jungler Daniel “Dan” Hockley actually makes it look easy: He waits until the dragon has very little HP left, then jumps into the pit with Volibear’s Ultimate, defeating the monster in the process, and simply flashes back out after the job is done. Quick, easy and extremely frustrating for Fnatic.

He sees you, but you don’t see him…

Just jumping into the pit and taking down a monster is a very risky manoeuvre in itself. On Reddit, however, Kha’Zix player “ASNEAKYSAUSAGE” went one better.

With his assassin, the player actually hides directly in the pit, just out of reach of a Ward, and waits for his mission. When the monster’s HP is low enough, he jumps out, takes the kill and jumps away over the wall without any problems.

And so the Baron died of a mushroom

For steals in League of Legends, champions with global ultimate are actually especially known. For example, Jinx or Ezreal are known for claiming the buff for their team with well-tuned ability.

Not at all known for successful steals is the little scout Teemo. While his mushroom mines definitely add to the frustration of a player or two, they haven’t often stolen monsters yet… Or have they?

The example of Teemo shows again that risky maneuvers like monster steals in LoL can reveal hidden talents of players and champions. And who doesn’t like to be the hero whose Baron or Drake steal decides an even game to victory?
