Today Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is released for the PC. Unfortunately, PC gamers with AMD graphics cards will have to do without a feature for now

Update 07/26/2023 11:30am: The AMD driver changelog mentions that enabling ray tracing and dynamic resolution scaling on Radeon graphics cards can cause crashes. We have updated the article accordingly.

Today is an exciting day for PC gamers as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart releases today for Steam and the Epic Games Store. The much-anticipated PC port of the PS5 hit promises a lot of new things, including PC-exclusive features like Direct Storage 1.2 and GPU decompression. However, there is a small restriction for owners of AMD graphics cards, who will have to do without a feature for the time being.

Ray Tracing for AMD GPUs will come later

Insomniac has announced that the game will not support ray tracing on AMD graphics cards at launch today. This is due to possible crashes mentioned in AMD’s latest driver changelog.

A few days ago Nvidia (shared a video). This shows how RTX IO GPU Decompression is used to make fast loading times possible on the PC. You can read about how exactly RTX IO works and what benefits it brings here:

Thankfully, upscaling technologies have not been spared: Nvidia DLSS 2, DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2.0 and Intel XeSS are on board.

Nevertheless: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a game that was very well received by both critics and the community, and PC gamers with AMD graphics cards can still have a lot of fun with the game starting tonight – or wait until the problem has been fixed.

What do you think about the temporary lack of ray tracing for AMD graphics cards? Is that not so bad for you or is ray tracing a must-have feature for you? Write us your opinion about it in the comments!
