Project Wraith promises a classic shooter experience without modern bells and whistles, with the community at the heart of it all

With Battlefield and Call of Duty, two of the biggest shooter brands have repeatedly caused disappointment among their fans in recent years. The classic shooters that some followers of such franchises want these days are now being brought back time and again by smaller indie studios. One of them is Grassrootz Studio with their shooter Project Wraith.

What is Project Wraith?

The game in development is a multiplayer shooter that they say will bring back the golden era of the genre. For the developers, that means pure infantry combat, no killstreaks or vehicles. They also want to do without Pay2Win mechanics or aggressive monetisation. You can see what Project Wraith looks like in this gameplay trailer:

While there is still no release datefor the Kickstarter-funded shooter the developers already have clear goals in terms of gameplay, features and game modes:

  • For casual and hardcore fans: Project Wraith can either be played in normal mode or you fight in the hardcore mode without user interface, in which even a few hits are fatal and you cannot be revived.
  • Many game modes: Nine modes are known so far, including classics like Capture The Flag, Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search & Destroy and Gungame.
  • Weapons and player customisation: You should be able to choose from a large arsenal of weapons that can be customised to your liking. You will also be able to customise your character with different equipment and clothing.
  • Regular updates: After release, the game is expected to get regular patches and new content. There is a promise to develop a lengthy game that will not be abandoned after a year.
  • No Anti-player monetisation: Things like lootboxes and aggressive monetisation are to be avoided. Pay2Win mechanics will also be excluded, of course.

In addition, Project Wraith also promises excellent level and audio design, as well as a realistic damage model.

The extent to which the developers will be able to keep all their promises will probably only become clear when the game is released. If you are interested in the game, you can add it to your Steam wishlist (), or follow the development progress ( on Discord).

What do you think of Project Wraith after a first look? Would you like to play the title if it can fulfil all its promises? Do you long for a more classic shooter experience or are you actually not dissatisfied with the modern genre representatives? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
