Good news for the Fortnite community: The popular Battle Royale is finally getting a Ranked mode. In this article you will find all the information known so far.
While other games of the same genre have long offered a competitive mode, Fortnite fans have had to be patient until now. But the wait is over, as Epic Games finally announced Ranked Mode for Fortnite on 12 May.

On Twitter, the official Fortnite account posted a teaser on May 12 showing the different rank icons of the upcoming Ranked mode.

The comments under the post are positive across the board. Fans of the Battle Royale are hyped and even well known streamers seem to be completely giddy about the announcement.

Fortnite Ranked – When will the mode be available?
The new Fortnite Ranked mode is expected to be released as early as patch v24.40 on May 16
So after a short server downtime, you can start climbing the leaderboard ladder in Fortnite as early as tomorrow.

As you could already tell from the icons in the video, there will probably be 8 leagues in Fortnite.

Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond will each be divided into 3 divisions while Elite, Champion and Unreal will not be sub-divided.
It is conceivable that Epic Games would like to work with a ranking system (similar to League of Legends) on the higher tiers, where you can advance if you have reached enough points in the ranking.
Furthermore, Ranked mode will be available for both normal Battle Royale mode and Zero Build mode.
To get a rank, all you have to do is play a match . Your rank for the first season (“Season Zero”) is made up of the performance of the recently played matches, as well as the performance in the first Ranked Game.
Once you have reached the highest rank “Unreal “ you cannot be relegated for the current season.
Fortnite Ranked – How will you be able to move up?
There are a few factors that can affect your progress in Fortnite’s Ranked mode. These include:
- The ranking at the end of the game.
- Number of kills achieved in the team.
- Kills in the late-game count more than kills at the beginning of a round
- The ranks of the killed players are counted and taken into consideration
Furthermore, teams are considered as one unit. That is, all team members lose or win the same number of points for a game.
Fortnite Ranked – Here’s how matchmaking will work
If you are playing Fortnite Ranked alone, the rank of your opponents will be based on your own rank.
However, if you play as a duo or team, your group will receive a group rank. This is based on the player with the highest rank in your group.
So if you play as Bronze 2 with someone from Platinum, the matchmaking will be based on the Platinum player and put you in a match with similarly good players.
Fortnite Ranked – Differences from normal play
While Ranked mode will be available for the classic Fortnite modes (Battle Royale & Zero Build), there are still a few changes for ranked play:
- Material limit 999 -☻ 500
- The mining speed is slightly increased
- Players drop 50 of each material when they die
Fortnite Ranked – What are the rewards?
For completing Season Zero, you will receive a special emote to show off your current rank in the game.
You can also earn seasonal cosmetic rewards by completing “urgent Ranked tasks”.
These Ranked Orders only count for one game at a time and progress cannot be carried over to subsequent games.
