LoL is getting a major update for Season 2023.There will be two splits in Ranked that will reset roughly every six months. Split 1 will begin in January and Split 2 will occur in the summer.

What has long been the norm in Dota 2 will be introduced in the new League of Legends Season 2023. Two splits provide more variety and more motivation, as developer Riot Games emphasised in the announcement on Tuesday. However, there is still a special reason for the change.

a thorn in the side for a long time. With the new split-ranked system, top players in particular are to be kept from this temptation, because they have usually achieved everything early on. With the second split, which will probably start in the summer, everything will be set to zero – and thus a new incentive will be created for all users.

Split 1: January 2023

Split 2: Mid 2023 (date still unknown)

In addition, the rewards in each split will be increased. Hextech keys, chests and other content await during the course of each split. Split points are awarded per match, regardless of the outcome of the match.

For friends of skins, there is also a new incentive: Victorious skins will be available for every rank in the future. Previously, this was only granted to the gold ranks or higher. As long as “enough games” have been played, active players with a lower rank will also receive this skin. Meanwhile, placement matches will change from best-of-five matches to best-of-three matches.
