Soon you can experience for yourself what it means to be sent into battle against the bugs. The co-op shooter Extermination is going into Early Access in 2023

After the strategy game Terran Command brought the world of cult films to life, the co-op shooter Starship Troopers: Extermination will soon pit you against giant killer insects. For the Reveal, the game only shows a short trailer, which you can watch above, but already reveals a lot about its gameplay features.

Developer with shooter experience

The name of the developer studio responsible will sound familiar to some shooter fans: Offworld Industries also developed the hardcore shooters Squad, Post Scriptum and Beyond the Wire. Like these, Starship Troopers: Extermination will initially be released in Early Access on Steam in 2023 and then gradually receive new content.

12-player co-op

But how is the new co-op shooter supposed to play anyway? Apparently, you not only kill as many bugs as possible during your missions, but also build bases and complete objectives. Some of the most important features are already presented by the developers in their announcement, we summarise them for you:

  • (Co-op with many players): Groups of 12 players should be able to engage in combat together. These will be divided into squads of 4 soldiers each.
  • (Three playable classes): You go into battle as a stormtrooper, a provider or a defender, each of which requires its own style of play. By playing with a class, you unlock new weapons, equipment and abilities for it.

  • (Defences): Refineries contain valuable resources that you can collect and use to build defences. You can build walls, towers, ammunition boxes, guns and more.
  • (Five different enemies): At the start of Early Access, you will encounter five types of bugs: Drones, Warriors, Riflemen, Plasma Grenadiers and Tiger Elite Bugs. Apparently more enemy types will follow later.
  • (Large Map): In the near future there will be a large map with five different zones. Here you will be able to fight hundreds of bugs at the same time. During your missions, the danger of bugs will also increase steadily and more and more dangerous enemies will appear on the battlefield.
  • (Side Objectives): To make missions easier for you, you can complete additional objectives such as recapturing refineries and bases and destroying breeding grounds.
  • (Ping System): Like in some other shooters, you can mark targets, enemies or locations for your teammates, which should make squad communication easier.

That”s all we know so far about Offworld Industries” new co-op shooter. We”ll keep you posted on the game, of course, but in the meantime you can check out what new content the (strategy game Starship Troopers – Terran Command) released with a free update!

What do you think of Extermination? Would you like to play a co-op shooter in which you kill hordes of aggressive insects? And how did you like the developer”s previous games? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
