The Worlds 2022 are over and have found a new LoL World Champion with DRX. Besides the underdog story, there were also some records.

On 06 November the Worlds 2022 final took place with DRX against T1. But before the match started, it was already certain that a record would be set by these matches. In the end, DRX won, achieving the seemingly impossible.

After a spectacular Opening Ceremony by Riot Games, the first round of DRX against T1 began. While many star players wanted to see Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok win since the beginning of the tournament, DRX was also able to build up a large fan base with Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu.

The two pros originally went to the same high school and started their careers in the same year. On top of that, DRX is the first team to make it from the play-in stage to the finals. T1 was still considered a fan favourite, however DRX also took the underdog role perfectly.

LoL records have been broken

After the first four matches the score was 2-2, which meant the next match would decide the title. DRX then successfully fought for the title in 42 thrilling minutes. So while they accepted the trophy, T1 had to settle for second place.

But these five matches also attracted some viewers, so that a new record was broken with 5.1 million users, not including the Chinese broadcast. This was not the only record set, however, as Deft, at 26, is now the oldest player ever to win the Worlds. However, if T1 had won after all, that place would have gone to Faker, who is also 26.

DRX has also already chosen their Worlds skins. The champions Aatrox, Kindred, Akali, Caitlyn and Ashe have been chosen.

An emotional ending

Of course, the victory was a great success for DRX, which is why some in the team burst into tears. In the same way, T1 also had to fight with them and especially supporter

Ryu “Keria” Min-seok found this difficult. After this narrow defeat, he felt so bad in the first few minutes that he questioned his whole life, as he told the press conference afterwards.

But the Worlds were not only an emotional tournament for the players, for many fans the final was the best ever! Looking back, this League of Legends season was also full of emotions, which came up on the one hand due to the live events that were possible again, but also due to victories that had been on the wish list in the scene for a long time. These include the Worlds victory of DRX, but also the LEC victory of Rogue by Odoamne. So this year has come to a nice end for all LoL fans.

But those who still can’t do without competitive games have the opportunity to follow the Prime Super Cup. There, on 8 November, it will be decided whether BIG or SKP will be allowed to enter the final with Hertha BSC.
