Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok is a true legend in League of Legends eSports. The South Korean could rise to the sole top spot with another World Championship title.

Even before the upcoming grand final at LoL Worlds 2022 between T1 and DRX, it is certain that history will be made. Either the underdog team DRX can prevail on 6 November and claim their first World Championship title – or Faker will be crowned World Champion for the fourth time.

This would make the 26-year-old the sole record winner. Only compatriot Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong can match that, but he has since stepped down and is currently coaching T1 as interim coach. But winning the title again would not be the only world record Faker would hold at the Worlds.

Faker sets standards on world’s biggest eSports stage

For he is also the player with the most games played at the World Cup. He already set this record with the opening match of this year’s group phase. The match against Cloud9 was his 100th match at the Worlds. He has now reached 110 with an outstanding win rate of almost 74% – another record.

Funfact: Due to the many games, he is also the player with the most deaths. 235 times he had to start again in his own base. However, he also holds the record for the most kills (385).

It is impressive that his team has always finished first in its group in seven World Cup participations. And on top of that, he is a permanent guest in the semi-finals – there has never been an earlier exit. He won his first title in 2013, and after 2015 and 2016, 2022 could also be an outstanding season for the mid-laner.
