After several failed attempts, the developers of Eve Online haven’t given up yet and are once again working on an FPS shooter in the same universe.

After several failed attempts and discontinued projects, the developers of Eve Online are still holding on to the idea of an FPS shooter in the Eve universe . At this year’s Eve Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland, studio CCP Games (via PCGamer) announced a new project of this kind. And no, this is not the first attempt. We provide you with the most important info.

All good things come in threes

Let’s take a look back at the first two attempts at a shooter in the Eve universe.

Eve-Shooter 1
: The developers of Eve Online started the first attempt back in 2009 when they published a trailer for the title Dust 514 for the first time. The FPS shooter was released free2play for the Playstation 3 on 14 May 2013. Only three years after launch, however, the servers were shut down again and the title was thus discontinued.

Eve-Shooter 2: Work on a new FPS shooter in the same universe was announced, with the working title Project Nova. But even before the closed alpha was to start, the developers promoted the game back to the planning phase, as initial feedback left a lot to be desired.

During the development of Project Nova, we have conducted a number of player studies with external partners, tested the game relentlessly internally and consulted the community to evaluate the project. Now that we have taken all of this research and feedback into account, we see that the game experience in its current form does not match our original vision and would not meet our ambitious goals for this project. For this reason, we will not be proceeding with the upcoming Invite-Only Alpha until further notice “.

Not much has been heard from Project Nova since then. This project was postponed indefinitely for the time being and then discontinued at some point without much announcement.

Hope dies last

This will now be Eve-Shooter 3: But apparently the developers still haven’t given up hope. Because as already mentioned, a new first-person shooter set in the Eve universe has now been announced. The project is currently still in a very early development phase, so concrete information is very limited.

Currently, we only know that it will be a tactical multiplayer shooter with atmospheric graphics and hardcore elements. A real announcement will be made later, as soon as there is more to show instead of tell.

We know that a hard sci-fi FPS game set in the EVE universe is a very popular concept, and CCP is committed to delivering an innovative multiplayer shooter with atmospheric graphics. We want to show you rather than tell you how we developed this concept, and we look forward to doing so when the time comes to reveal the game.

Other spin-offs to Eve Online: Incidentally, the space action game with a VR focus Eve: Valkyrie was released last. However, the virtual reality experiment flopped, which is why developer CCP said goodbye to the genre completely. The studio responsible for Valkyrie, CCP Newcastle, was sold after numerous employees were made redundant due to the lack of results.

What do you think? Will the third attempt finally come to fruition and give you a first-person shooter in the Eve universe? What would you most like to see in this title? Tell us in the comments!
