Pharaoh: A New Era wants to give the city-building classic from 1999 a new shine – and for Markus Schwerdtel, it’s a real beacon of hope! The developers want to bring the graphics and game mechanics up to date, but also preserve the charm of the past. In the new trailer, they show how to modernise the look while still paying attention to the details of the original.

The new edition will also have the add-on Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile on board and will include the campaign, a mode for free building and map editor. In order to cultivate the land on the banks of the Nile Valley and allow the ancient civilisation of the Egyptians to flourish, in Pharaoh: A New Era you will have to build skillfully, master economic and political crises and fend off plundering by enemies.

Pharaoh isn’t the only building classic returning: with remakes of Caesar and Zeus and new Builders of Games, there’s plenty of new city-building fodder waiting in the wings.
