Sea of Thieves celebrates 25 million players with gifts of gold and doubloons. Only one lucky player really clears it.
Would pirates play the lottery? Probably yes, after all lures despite vanishingly small chances a stately fortune. You can imagine a similar action by developer Rare to celebrate 25 million players, except that all participants automatically have five correct numbers. But only one takes home the jackpot!
The gift lottery works like this: Anyone who logs into Sea of Thieves between October 19 and 26, 2021 at 16:00 each day will automatically be credited with 25,000 gold and 25 doubloons. So far, so good. But: among all players, one lucky predator will be chosen to receive the big jackpot of 25,000,000 gold!
25 million gold talers is a more than tidy sum on the game’s seas, for which you can get cosmetic items and voyages, for example. Doubloons, on the other hand, are the premium currency that unlocks special skins and various goodies on the black market.
Today almost another game
Because the number of the hour for Sea of Thieves is 25, Rare also takes a look at the top 25 features the co-op pirate game has gotten since its March 2018 release in the accompanyingblog post Sea of Thieves was initially released with only a small amount of content, but the developers have greatly expanded it in the aftermath.
For example, there are now Seasons in Sea of Thieves, which, true to the nature of a service game, regularly provide you with new content. Most recently, sunken locations came into play in this way, expanding the gameplay from the surface of the water to the (treasure-rich) undersea. Here’s a trailer:
Other new content includes Vaults of the Ancients, hidden locations in the game world where resourceful pirates can solve puzzles and collect treasures. However, all too greedy thieves are threatened with a tragic fate, as the chambers close forever after a certain time – with or without a player in them!
If you manage to get your wooden legs back into the fresh air in time, the numerous new trading companies meanwhile offer plenty of opportunities to spend your hard-gotten pirate gold on fancy stuff. Massive amounts of cosmetic items to embellish pirates, pets and weapons are among them. So now all players have the necessary small gold for a few purchases in their pockets.
